Module 3.5 presents an overview of the six dimensions of ASAM patient placement criteria and the DSM-IV multi-axial classification system.It describes the main theoretical foundations of ASAM placement guidelines and how the DSM addresses substance use disorders. A brief explanation of how the GAIN uses DSM and ASAM criteria to support diagnostic impressions and treatment planning recommendations is also provided.
